Doggy Talents Next - The next generation of the popular mod Doggy Talents
Immortal Dogs feature is back! It is, however, disabled by default. To enable it for a specific world, go to <That world's dir>/serverconfig/doggytalents-server.toml and set immortal_dogs = true. Bed-respawning is still available regardless of the configuration. For how the behavior works, visit here

#And much more!
π¦΄My vision
This mod aims to create #Harmony between the dogs and the player throughout the game. Imagine playing a Piano Concerto, you as the pianist and the dogs as the orchestra. When the two sounds are being played, it creates harmony, which our ears love so much. Thus, the orchestra doesn't overwhelm but empowers the pianist. The mod is and will be designed along that principle. The dogs should accompany the player well while not becoming overpowered in the context. Although when on-demand, sufficient abilities should be granted to them, but, they should be required to work to achieve those. And you, the responsible owner, should help them.
A Note From DashieDev
- This project's purpose is to continue the development of the beloved mod DoggyTalents, which the current author ProPercivalalb no longer has the time to work on as he emailed me in a commit, which is here.
- The original concept and implementations belongs to RaustBlackDragon back in 2013, and most of the code still belongs to ProPercivalalb 's DoggyTalents2 repository, while I was copying it over, I make some big changes which involves upgrading the mod to Minecraft's newest version at that time, which is 1.19.2.
- Also right now, I am currently the only one doing almost everything in this repo (maintaining, developing, wiki editing, coding, feature testing, I do enjoy it because I love this mod but, things will get slow also because I am also working on a big community project too. So I hope that everyone understands if things get a little bit delayed π And if you are interested in helping, feel free to PM me ππ
- EVERYTHING ELSE ASIDE, HAVE FUN WITH THE MOD! β€οΈπΆπ¦΄βοΈπΉβ€οΈ

F.A.Q
Q: How do I get a dog?
Use a Training Treat on a Tamed Vanilla Wolf, a stick then can be used to access his menu.
Q: How does hunger work?
A dog can a maximum of 120 Hunger points, meat will increase their hunger, and the Happy Eater talent will increase the amount got from these foods and allow them to eat fish and rotten flesh. As long as they have hunger they will slowly regenerate health and when a dog is sitting it will slowly regenerate hunger. If the dog's hunger drops below 11, the dog will beg you for food and his speed will be drastically decreased, at zero, the dog will take damage according to the difficulty the world is in.
Q: Some of the dog textures are missing (black and purple texture)
This is intentional to allow you to add your own textures, add textures to "assets\doggytalents\textures\entity\dog\custom" with the name 'doggytex$NUM$.png'
Check out the Github Wiki for more details, recipes, and pictures!

I have added proper armor for the dogs! It is in form of a talent that you can give the dog or disable anytime. After training your dog with that talent, you can right click the dog with any armor piece in hand and a gui open letting you places any vanilla armor pieces on the dog :) And the dog will actually EQUIP the armor, means that the armor is fully functional, including the enchantments :) And on level 3/3 of the talent, the dog will automatically collect XP to repair damaged armor with the Mending Enchantment :)
Hello! A few friends and I started a server with this mod, but we cannot get the whistle to change commands. Does shift right-click still do that or is it another way I don't know?
In reply to JoyfulCat:
Shift+Right-Click it should bring up a menu, and you then can use the arrow to navigate as you can see here . That way you can switch mode quicker and with less accidentals. Did it bring up anything?
Oh man my girlfriend LOVES this mod so much please keep up the good work and improving it, thank you for all your work :)
Can I use the fabric please, just try it out.
Is there a way to increase the armor status that show in the hud ? or a mod compatibility for this...
In reply to BryanGun:
Right now the armor system is not fully supported yet. Making a proper armor system is one of my future tasks. But i still got some improvements to do with the A.I. I have recently been focusing a lot on the a.i, as the og DoggyTalents a.i still as dumb as the vanilla a.i, which is the main reason for their vulnerability. I had progressed a lot in making the dog actually smarter now... Wiith good a.i we can do well without armor for awhile tbh ....
In reply to dashiedev:
Ok Thanks, improvements are always welcome, A.I. it will help a lot and the mod is compatible replacing Doggy Talents, I tested it and I didn't lose my dog ββ:3 It's difficult to balance an armor system without overwhelming it, but when placed in larger modpacks they will unfortunately struggle with certain mobs, in the past there were Enchanted Wolves that worked well in this regard alongside canine talents. I will be following your progress. Love this mod thanks again.
In reply to BryanGun:
I have added that armor system in, it is in the form of a talent β€οΈ Unlike the old one, the dog will actually EQUIP the armor when you place it in the dog Armor GUI, so it is fully functional, which means that Enchantment fully works, and also at level 3 of the talent, the dog will auto consume any XP nearby to fix any damaged armor with the Mending Enchantment. Also being a talent, it allows you to simply disable it via config if you feel that is too op for the context.
In reply to dashiedev:
Oh cool, downloading right now :v.
Can the fabric come out quickly, I've been waiting for a long time.
In reply to votoke:
Right now i seems to encounter a very ... serious problem with fabric ... Which temporarily slowdown the development for a while. Aside, porting to fabric is .. a lot of work tho :(
In reply to dashiedev:
Ok I'll wait for you.
I can't find the recipe for the dog beds for some reason, were they removed?
In reply to jettathan:
Everything is still the same, you can craft them as usual. I may have left out JEI support...
In reply to dashiedev:
That might be it. The dog bed doesn't show up in the recipe book at all, and the only one that shows up in JEI is the one with "acacia plank casing and black wool bedding" but clicking it doesn't show a recipe.
Edit: Unrelated, is there a way to make it so the dogs use my resource pack's variant textures? My dogs were different colors until I gave them training treats, but now they're both grey (and don't have the little sweaters my resource pack gives them).
THANK YOU I LOVE YOU I HOPE YOU CAN TAME EVERY WOLF WITH JUST 1 BONE AND NONE OF YOUR DOGS EVER DIE
btw issit possible to link this mod to the og doggytalents page? i've been going back to that pg for months now to check for updates and if the people like me saw this it'll be nice :))
In reply to Taco_Maui:
I am very glad that you are happy β€οΈπΆπ¦΄ I spend a lot of heart on soul on the mod and really want to continue developing this after ProPercivalab being occupied with a real software dev job, i just matriculated into university recently so still have plenty of time! Thanks a lot for your wish! β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
Although i think if you would be able to tame every wolves/dogs with just one bone it would be kinda...... too .... easy, because it cheapens your commitment for them, it also add some personality to some of the picky, shy or concerned wolves :) Right now you have a 33.33333% of taming the wolf each time you feed him.
Yes, my goal is to make the mod as enjoyable as possible and having your dog crying while burning to death in front of your face is nowhere near enjoyable. You and the dog should be able to support each other.
The og DoggyTalents page (2nd generation) is not owned by me, so i can't seems to find a way to link it to there, i have been trying to contact ProPercivalab a lot but since he got busy with his job, he stopped replying completely :( Which is kinda sad.
is it compatible with domestication innovation?
In reply to thereflectiveflame:
I haven't implement the bridge yet, but for now the mod will still work side by side with the other mods, as it is independent, i just that it may not utitlize the other mods features....
