Doggy Talents Next - The next generation of the popular mod Doggy Talents
Immortal Dogs feature is back! It is, however, disabled by default. To enable it for a specific world, go to <That world's dir>/serverconfig/doggytalents-server.toml and set immortal_dogs = true. Bed-respawning is still available regardless of the configuration. For how the behavior works, visit here

π¦΄What this mod is about
#Enhancements to the experience of having dogs as companions throughout the game
#Improvements to the dogs' logic, making them more reliable and refined than vanilla Wolves/Dogs
#Talents you can give to your dog to make him a good-er boy!
#Locate your dog with the Radio Colar and the Radar, and never lost track of your dog's location again!
#Revive your dog, allow your dog to rise again from the dead, and never lose your dog permanently again.
#Play Fetch with your dog
#Accessories to provide your dogs some style and make them stand out
#Dog furniture like dog beds and dog bowls
#And much more!
π¦΄My vision
This mod aims to create #Harmony between the dogs and the player throughout the game. Imagine playing a Piano Concerto, you as the pianist and the dogs as the orchestra. When the two sounds are being played, it creates harmony, which our ears love so much. Thus, the orchestra doesn't overwhelm but empowers the pianist. The mod is and will be designed along that principle. The dogs should accompany the player well while not becoming overpowered in the context. Although when on-demand, sufficient abilities should be granted to them, but, they should be required to work to achieve those. And you, the responsible owner, should help them.
A Note From DashieDev
- This project's purpose is to continue the development of the beloved mod DoggyTalents, which the current author ProPercivalalb no longer has the time to work on as he emailed me in a commit, which is here.
- The original concept and implementations belongs to RaustBlackDragon back in 2013, and most of the code still belongs to ProPercivalalb 's DoggyTalents2 repository, while I was copying it over, I make some big changes which involves upgrading the mod to Minecraft's newest version at that time, which is 1.19.2.
- Also right now, I am currently the only one doing almost everything in this repo (maintaining, developing, wiki editing, coding, feature testing, I do enjoy it because I love this mod but, things will get slow also because I am also working on a big community project too. So I hope that everyone understands if things get a little bit delayed π And if you are interested in helping, feel free to PM me ππ

F.A.Q
Q: How do I get a dog?
Use a Training Treat on a Tamed Vanilla Wolf, a stick then can be used to access his menu.
Q: How does hunger work?
A dog can a maximum of 120 Hunger points, meat will increase their hunger, and the Happy Eater talent will increase the amount got from these foods and allow them to eat fish and rotten flesh. As long as they have hunger they will slowly regenerate health and when a dog is sitting it will slowly regenerate hunger. If the dog's hunger drops below 11, the dog will beg you for food and his speed will be drastically decreased, at zero, the dog will take damage according to the difficulty the world is in.
Q: Some of the dog textures are missing (black and purple texture)
This is intentional to allow you to add your own textures, add textures to "assets\doggytalents\textures\entity\dog\custom" with the name 'doggytex$NUM$.png'
Check out the Github Wiki for more details, recipes, and pictures!

Sure, the mod is a fork of the project, most of the ids and encodings remains the same so yeah, i can garanteed data integrity, but you can make a backup just to be safe π I tested on my side and all of like .... 14 dogs are preserved ....
In reply to dashiedev:
Nice, thanks for the reply.
Hi, can you please update mod description about placement of custom dog textures to assets\doggytalents\textures\entity\dog\custom\?
In reply to dendirty:
Right away π
In reply to dashiedev:
Thank you!
I textured my dog for use with this. 10/10 Makes me feel very happy!
In reply to outrightwings:
Nice! I am glad that you like it β€οΈ
Will this continue to be Forge only? (I swear I've played it on Fabric but I cannot find any that explicitly say it)
In reply to 4NGEL1C_:
I cannot be asure about that because i actually have a fabric variant in WIP but i hit a problem, and i am also kinda hooked into other things as well (university), so as much as i want to, i don't know how and when the fabric would be available or even possible. FYI, unfortunately, DoggyTalents was never a fabric mod ....... So it is interesting how you have a copy that works on fabric π
can i disable hunger for dogs?
In reply to Pitlos_Tails:
You can disable it via your server config which you can found in
<your world folder>/serverconfigs/doggytalents-server.toml
then set
disable_hunger = true
But do take note that currently in both the OG and this version you cannot heal the dog using food as you do with vanilla dogs, but this version allows you to force heal the dog by feeding the dog till full (which will produce the saturation-like healing effect), but it only works when hunger is enabled, so you may rely on the natural regeneration of the dog, which happens periodically, or you can give your dog a Golden Apple anytime, or Rescue Dog may help.
Can you backport it to 1.19 please
I dont want to mess with chat report things in my server
Hi! Love the mod!! Works good, though I coud not see every variant of beds with JEI, only one, nor see the recipe (I knew it though).
On another matter, I found out that your mod is not compatible with Domastcation Innovation, so I wantet to ask if you could try to make them compatible (don´t know how that works), both are grate mods. If not posible it doesn't matter. Thank you :D
In reply to devilsbride98:
I am very glad that you love the mod. I spent a lot of heart and soul on it. β€οΈ
I have temporarily left out JEI support because back when I was porting the old one, I have never ported a mod before and I am just a first-year university student, so it was not an easy task for me (Although I was able to fight through the thousand errors that came up and port it to new version), so I left it out so it would make things simpler for me, although I will add that back in the future.
Could you please further clarify what you mean by "not compatible"? I mean, what actually happens if you install both mods? Does it result in a crash, bug or unexpected behavior ? If so then something may be wrong and i must investigate it. In theory, i think because this mod use a different entity seprated from the vanilla wolf entity to represent the dog/wolf, unless the other mod do something to the parent class, then playability is garanteed, i just that it may not utilize the other mod's feature because it is seperate. If the other mod DOES do something then it completely depends on that mod actually.
In reply to dashiedev:
Perfect, no problem (JEI). About the "not compatible" part, the game just crashes... though now that I think about it, I havent tried whit only Domastication Innovation, maybe its some other mod. I'll clarify this when I try it :) (for me doggy talent is a must have, so I didn't try the other way)
Edit: forget the "not compatible" issue, looks like it's some other mod. Thank you! And thanks for porting this mod, it's awesome to have dogs that won't push you into lava or something, and that are way better in general.
any chance you could integrate some features with quark mod for its shiba? also mod not working at all for me for some reason. some sort of conflict I assume dogs just sit when clicking or shift clicking with shears to cut collar. any ideas? happy you picked up this repo
In reply to log_wood:
Could you please provide me with more information on how the mod is not working ? Like the crash message ? Do you still have OG DoggyTalents installed? What does it says when Minecraft start? so that i can work to get it running on your instance ? Thanks. β€οΈ
In reply to dashiedev:
not a single log related to the mod when launching. everything is appearing just fine in the creative inventory and rendering fine no crashes or anything. dog beds look great just when using collars, sheers, or sticks nothing works. dogs just sit and stand when using shears on them. ill pm you link to my modpack im working on dont know what the conflict could be. possible variable mod height?
In reply to log_wood:
Thanks i will take a look. But a question first.
Have you give the dog a Training Treat ? If not then you should because the mod have absolutely no effect until that point.
https://github.com/DashieDev/DoggyTalentsNext/wiki/Getting-Start
If you have, then a cause is that another mod may have canceled the interaction before this mod have any chance to take over ...
In reply to dashiedev:
yes im dumb figured it was just vanilla it all works haha sorry should have read the entire page. thanks for the help! doesnt work on quark dog shiba but didnt really expect it to. would be awesome if that got added at some point but sure its nowhere near a priority might take a crack at it myself sometime. thanks for keeping the mod alive :)
