Description
This small client side mod allows you to change the boring old dirt background of your minecraft menu to something nicer.
Usage
When you first install the mod on your client it will be in random mode. It will randomly select a background out of a pool from blocks i found looked quite nice as backgrounds.
You can also specify your own background in the config file (Fixed-Background), it takes a Resource Location. For example "textures/blocks/stone.png" will be stone and "textures/blocks/bedrock.png" will be bedrock. If you open up your minecraft.jar in a zip program you can see all the names of the vanilla minecraft textures.
This also works for blocks (/textures) from other mods, just open up the mod jar in a zip program and locate the texture you wanna use in their assets folder and stick "modid:" in front of it. For example "mineralogy:textures/blocks/drywall_yellow.png" will use the yellow drywall texture from Mineralogy.
If you wanna use your own texture you can add that using resource packs or with Resource Loader (easier).
Some possible examples:
Feel free to use this mod in any modpack
wait, where is the config folder?
Am I missing something or couldn't you just do this with a resource pack?
In reply to itskoilofficial:
Are we able to specify a list of backgrounds to use (or even a blacklist) in the config file, rather than just one?
I love the random backgrounds, but personally I don't like some of the choices (Purpur, for example :P)
can i use custom images that aren't textures?
yes!! thank you for clarifying im so bad at explaining things LOL
what about animated backgrounds
or even different images for diferent gui's
It is possible to prevent a mod from running on servers instead of exploding spectacularly and annoying people trying to keep their mod folders consistent between client and server. (OK, copy the mods folder over. Start server. [5 minutes later] Crap, it crashed. Oh, right. Delete Custom Backgrounds. Start server.) Not a massive deal, but pretty nice.
From what I have read, if the mod author correctly marks the mod as "Client Only" in the jar, the server will not load it. I have seen several mods that are intended only for the client do this, and the server then ignores them entirely.
I believe this is a new addition into the Forge system since 1.10.2 came out.
Will you make a version for 1.7?
Random Things contains this feature in 1.7.10.
can you give me a link for the instructions?
I'm doing modpack and I don't thing Random Things is good for it.
You can disable everything except this if you so desire.
Ok but how? And why are you doing new mod what adds this if Random Things haves this option. I don't understand...
In the Random Things config file. And i did that because in 1.8 it does not contain this anymore :P.
Ok thanks so much. I feel weird now because random things is...
I don't know how to say it but I still think this mod wants be 1.7.10.
Is There A 1.7.10 Version?
Is it possible to add our own backgrounds to a randomized list instead of a single background? It would be nice to have a folder with images named item1, item2, etc, and have one chosen at random like the default setting.
