Ever thought that the world behind your inventory was just too distracting? Then this is the mod for you!
Blur adds a Gaussian blur shader to the background of all GUIs, which fades into give it a sleek look. It is also highly configurable, so you can tune the look of the mod to your liking. Click here for a massive gif demonstration!
NOTE: This is the Fabric version of Blur, for the Forge version, look here.
You can configure the strength of the blur in the config file with the "radius" option.
Here is a demonstration of a few different radii:
Change the background colors and gradient!
Get lost in your GUIs!
Gorgeous rainy evening with you and your blur:
Works with shaders! Currently doesn't work with Optifine shaders due to an issue with Satin - consider using Canvas instead.
Explanation of Config Settings
- radius
- As explained above, this controls how "strong" the blur is. If you are experiencing performance problems, lower this.
- fadeTime
- This is the time it takes for the blur to "fade in", in milliseconds.
- gradientStart/EndColor
- The colors to use for the overlay on all GUI backgrounds. The value here is a hexadecimal color value, in the format ARGB (alpha first, then rgb). Because the background is a gradient, two colors can be specified. The default is black with a 45% alpha value (75000000).
- guiExclusions
A list of classes to be excluded from the blur shader. This is to be used for GUIs which do not necessarily cover the screen. It defaults to containing only one GUI, the chat.

Huh, does optifabric not show its incompatibility screen anymore ?
En respuesta a PyrofabTheModsmith :
I told the creator of optifabric if you could clear the error message and did, but the shaders are still missing.
in short it no longer shows the error message
In reply to lol3294:
What do you mean shaders are still missing ? Does it display an error screen when you try to use them ?
In reply to PyrofabTheModsmith:
not what I mean is that when entering shaders it will say that they are not compatible with satin api and nothing else
the game will not crash
In reply to lol3294:
Right, that's not exactly new, but thanks for the confirmation.
Options to enable/disable the blur for each individual GUI type would be nice. For example I would like to disable the blur when I open chat, but there is no way to do it right now.
In reply to toseflo00:
There is! If you use the latest version it should automatically disable blur in chat.
In reply to Motschen:
Just noticed that chat still blurs when you use OptiFabric. Without OptiFabric it works fine. Also in the chat description you write that there should be a "gui Exclusions" setting, but there isn't one in my options, even without OptiFabric. If you think that this is a bug with OptiFabric and not something that you can fix yourself, I would write a bug report for OptiFabric.
Hello! This looks like a great mod, although I cant actually use it. I'm getting an error that I have seen around, but haven't seen a fix. I am running the latest version of Fabric and the Blur mod. I am running no other mods.

Any Ideas?
Thanks!

P.S. (Is this to much like a formal letter?)
P.P.S. (I also added this comment on GitHub, just didn't know if you would see it there)
P.P.P.S. (I'm Sad)
In reply to loudbook1:
Ok, so I think I found the problem. In order to make it work, I needed to install 2 additional mods. For the people that are having this issue, these are the additional mods required. (Might not be required)
Satin API
Fabric API
In reply to loudbook1:
You shouldn't need to install Satin, should be included by default. But yes, you do need Fabric API.
This mod seems to clash with Optifabric - while the error screen for Optifine shaders says its Satin's fault (I don't have that mod installed), I'm led to believe it thinks the usage of blur shaders by this mod makes Optifabric think Satin is installed. Would I have to go to the devs behind Optifabric to fix this?
In reply to RoboTheMAHN:
This mod includes Satin, because Satin is the API allowing me to load the blur shader. I'm currently looking into alternative ways to do it however, because I also think that it looks great with shaders.
In reply to Motschen:
I see. Thanks for the info!
Absolutely love this mod. The blur is such a nice little visual detail that never would have occurred to me if I hadn't stumbled across this. I especially like that you give the tools to customize the blur strength and fade time. The one little nitpick I have is with the fade; if I'm in the pause menu, and I click to enter a sub-menu (like pausing, and then clicking the options button to go to that menu), it triggers again, so the blur seems to "flash" for a second as it disappears and then fades in again. But that's a minor quibble, this mod is awesome.
In reply to OhHeyItsEvvy:
The fade bug was fixed in 2.0.0, either you are using an older version or the fix didn't work for everyone.
Hi! I am using the latest Fabric Loader fir 1.16.4 and the API together with a few other mods but the game always crashes when I install the Blur mod... Is that just an incompatability problem or am I doing something wrong? I use the 2.0.0 version of the mod
In reply to Forge_User_61280760:
Do you use it alongside optifine?
In reply to Motschen:
Honestly that shouldn't matter. My game launches just fine with Blur 2.0 + Optifine (tested last night as part of my modpack). It's shaders that doesn't work with Blur, and that's only because Shaders is incompatible with the Satin API, which is built-in to Blur (I find this really ironic, as the preview pictures have shaders enabled :/). Even then it doesn't cause a crash for me. It just prevents me from activating shaders.
This is just my experience with this. If I'm missing something here, I apologize.
In reply to JENOVA_Absolute:
I can't even get to the menu. I start the game and after a while before the Minecraft Windows even shows up it shows me a crash message :(
