What is the Kappa Shader?
A shaderpack that aims towards a realistic, but also authentic look. So it is not plainly using physically accurate vales and equations like many other packs do. Instead, while still using many accurate calculations, it is tweaked to reproduce what you could observe in nature, which usually goes beyond just having equations to describe most phenomenons.
Where can I download it?
Either here or via my website (link below).
What features does it offer?
- dynamic shadows
- atmospheric scattering
- volumetric clouds
- volumetric fog
- lens flares
- depth of field
- motionblur
- global illumination
- bloom
- temporal anti-aliasing
- resourcepack support
and many, many more.
Any Requirements?
- Optifine for 1.12 or newer
- Version 4.0 and newer require 1.16 until OptiFine finally backports new features
- Iris support pending, this has to be done on Iris' end, not mine so don't ask about that for the time being
- GTX 1050/RX 560 or similar/better (has to support OpenGL 4.0)
- Windows/Linux
- DUE TO REPEATED ISSUE-REPORTS: Intel HD 5000 Graphics and older are NOT supported!
I have
AMD Ryzen 5 2400G
and
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
with
8GB DDR4 Memory
how well will this run?
are there plans to update the shader to 1.19.1?
Really like the kappa shader, as it's the only shader that has sun rays under water and the effects in the end and nether are cool as hell. The only problem I have with it is that everything seems to blur when I walk around and the shadows are also incredibly blurry near the edge. Is there any way to sharpen the shadows and fix the weird blurring effects? Thanks
I kinda run with an issue which I guess I also have with any other shader somehow, I use 1.16.1 optifine, I have newest version (which I supossed should work fine?) and everytime I enable the shader screen is black, only see toolbar, is there anything that has to be done?
What was the resource pack you used in the images?

It's Patrix
bro pleasssseee make this pack for 1.12.2 bc thats the world i have my mods on and all of my progress and i would love to use ur shaders to enhance my gameplay
Hey, I REALLY like the shaders, they’re currently my favorite by far, but there’s one thing that’s keeping it from being basically perfect to me, which is the low saturation in dark areas. Is there any way I could disable this? Even if I had to mess with config files, it would completely change the game to me. Thanks in advance!
In reply to TutuJPM:
It's called purkinje effect and can be found in the shader settings under Post processing. You wanna move the exponent slider further to the right to allow more saturation and less blue-ification.
Hi, I'm running this on an RTX 3060 Ti and get like 40 fps on average. I've even turned a lot of the expensive stuff off,..
The problem isn't the fps, I can live with that as no other shaderpack looks this good anyways - and they have very similar fps.
The problem is that anytime the hud changes the game crashes. Screenshots, chat text, advancements, scrolling through the hotbar etc.
Changing dimensions work fine, although a little laggy. I don't really know what's causing this..
Edit: I had ExtraSounds enabled. It seems like the game doesn't like it combined with shaders sorry.
I still only get like 40 fps tho, but hands down this is the most beautiful shaderpack avaiable
hopefully iris will make the shader work on this shader pack soon
Any plans for iris compatibility?
In reply to JosephMamah:
It's all on iris if they want to or not
In reply to NotArchiTronk:
That's weird
Awesome Shader! :D
Keep up the good work!!
I showcased it in German and compared it to other shaders, if someone is interested! :)
Hey RRe36,
I really love both your kappa shaders and notalgia shaders.
But there is a problem.
Both have light bleeding issues in caves and closed dark areas. I have treid both an RTX 2060 and 2070 SUPER. Both have this issue. It is really annoying as it ruines the beatiful asthetic of your shaders. I havedone some reaserch and I think it something to do with the bloom, but I am not sure. You know best. Is there any possible way to fix this? (1.18.1 latest optifine). I would like to make a video of it soon andwould really appreciate some help.
Thanks for your time, xD
In reply to the_dragon_snail:
You can blame that on optifine really, as I now have to add the rather poor workaround that occludes the sunlight with the vanilla skylight map ontop. This will be in the next update (or grab the test version on my discord server as that one already has it) as a setting.
At this point most of us devs are super frustrated about this nonsense optifine brought upon us with the new shadowmap culling but it is what it is until Iris or Focal engine are viable replacements for advanced packs.
In reply to RRe36:
Thanks for the quick reply and help man!
AndI am also really looking forward to the focal engine realease, as it will be as1.12 terrain is to 1.18 now.

Hey I was looking on your discord, But I could not find where to dowload the Test version, just the testing channel. Dont want to be annoying, just need some help :)
