270 - Add a box that tell users not to upload projects they do not have the authorization for
Ckknight and Kaelten,
Due to the increasing number of people trying to post fan updates or projects from authors they haven't even spoken to, I think it's about time a box with a red border or flashing neon green (anything that get the attention!) is added to the create project / upload file page.
Inside said box, simply remind the author that he/she cannot upload something that they haven't made or gotten the green light from the author in question. We do not allow fan updates or "this is a mod found at X site, I now upload it here too, it was made by Z!" ...

lifetapt Sun, 22 Jun 2008 04:13:05I'm assuming by fan updates you mean people who just copy an addon over from another site, change the ToC number and reupload 2 days after a new patch, etc.? Or are fan updates where significant changes were made to code are included also?
My first addon was not originally written by me, but it seemed to be abandoned (no update in about 6-7 months) and it did not work for 2.4. So, I made a small fix to make it work with the 2.4 combat log and reuploaded it with a couple new features. Since then I have picked up the addon and have added more code than the original itself had.
You might want to clarify in whatever big flashing neon box which kinds of fan updates are OK and which are not, I think it's safe to allow people to resume development of an addon that hasn't had an update in a while.

Ackis Mon, 16 Jun 2008 16:43:13You should mention the license as well, some licenses allow you to do it w/o authorization.
