Curse Client v4 - Windows

ccip file won't run on startup [FIXED]

Using Win 7 64 bit RTM (am a technet subscriber).  If I set Curse Client to run on startup, I get an error message that ccip is an unknown file extension.  But I can run the shortcut manually without difficultly.

Is this still occurring, with the latest build? The CCIP system was re-engineered in build 4.0.0.783.

  • 12 hours later (on Wed, 07 Oct 2009 01:03:00)

I am getting the same error now at startup only since it updated 4.0.0.801:

    "Windows cannot open this file:
    File: CurseClientStartup.ccipm
To open this file, Windows needs to know what program you want to use to open it..."

Thinking it might be a file association issue, I clicked Tools > Repair File Associations in Curse and get the error:
"Curse Client v4 was unable to repair its file associations, due to an error.
Please check the log file, and report this issue to Curse."

This is what I found in the log file:

[2009-10-07 00:58:46 Error] CDeploymentUtility - Unable to find GUID in registry!
[2009-10-07 00:58:46 Error] CDeployment Utility - RecreateInstallPackageRegistryKeys - Unable to update registry key! Details: Type: System.ArgumentNullException

I am getting the same error. Running v849 and the problem also started for me with v801. Running Vista Home Priemium SP2 64bit if that makes a differance.

  • 2 hours later (on Wed, 07 Oct 2009 22:54:20)

I just got this error this evening on start-up of Windows 7 32-bit, running RTM version 7100. Manually running the shortcut in the Startup menu brought up the same error message, and pointing it back at the curse client didn't seem to have any appreciable effect.

  • 2 hours later (on Thu, 08 Oct 2009 01:28:02)

I'm getting this message at start-up too. It started yesterday. I can actually manually start the client with the start menu shortcut, but trying to repair the file associations gives me the permissions error. I am currently running client version 4.0.0.900 on Win 7 RTM 64bit.

I just had a thought, i'm thinking Vista permissions isn't allowing it to change preferences. But I can't find a way to run this application as administrator by right-clicking because it's not a shortcut in the start menu, it's a file. My account is administrator of my own computer, but even with that privilege certain programs have to be run elevated to make registry changes, etc.

    EDIT:
I just updated to the latest version, still same problem. I disabled UAC then tried doing Tools > Repair File Associations in Curse and now get a different error:

"Curse Client v4 was unjable to repair its file associations, due to insufficient permissions to access the Windows Registry"

There's only my account on my computer, and i'm the administrator, so I don't see why this should be happening. So for now, every time I reboot my computer, I still get the "Windows cannot open file" error at startup.

This was fixed in version 4.0.0.914

  • 30 hours later (on Sat, 10 Oct 2009 09:25:40)

I'm running 4.0.0.942 (which hopefully is a build after 4.0.0.914), and the problem is still present.

I'm using Vista 64-bit RTM. I get the CCIP-error on startup, and "Repair File Association" gives the following in the log file (start-up of the Curse client puts the same into the log file):

[2009-10-10 09:17:06 Error] CFileRegistrationUtility - FindRegistryGuid Exception! Details: Type: System.NullReferenceException

Message: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

sorry not fixed, fresh install (several times) using 32 bit xp sp3 looking for curse tool to remove all references in registry so i can try again. specifically i added the curse client into startup and removed the reference to ccip. the curse client (i am guessing) removed the reference to the shortcut and added the reference to the ccip. and i get the error as stated above. I am using the download provided by wowace.com that links to clientupdate...... I dont know if this is helpful, however I had done an uninstall of version 3 and it did not uninstall except in add/remove programs. i did not reboot after the uninstall. Also running this on a 64 bit vista and do not experience this problem.

I get this as well on 64bit windows vista and i have the latest version of the curse client. clearly this is not fixed.

  • 21 hours later (on Tue, 13 Oct 2009 15:29:01)

I have just published a Curse Client v4 update that should correct this issue.

  • 18 days later (on Sat, 31 Oct 2009 18:32:52)

I just downloaded and installed the current version as listed on the curse website and got the same error, so still is not fixed.

  • 2 hours later (on Sat, 31 Oct 2009 20:44:00)

tekster, report this as a bug from Curse Client v4. The log data will help me fix it.
